Step 2.

Building your index page!

Your index page is the page people come to when they first arrive on your site. Here, you want to introduce yourself, tell what your site is about, put links to the other pages of your site. and most important of all, have something there that will catch people's attention and make them want to stay and look around. Most of the free web sites today come with wizards to help you build your web page without having to learn HTML. That's great if you intend to keep a real simple web page. If you don't know HTML and would like to work with your page on your own and especially if you want to play with JAVA and applets, contact me through my help form on my other site and you'll see that it doesn't take much at all to learn enough to go to note pad and build a page of your own. To get you up and running, lets build a simple index page to see how easy it is. First, open My Documents. Click on file. Click on new. Click on folder. Scroll down in My Documents and find your new folder and single click on it to highlight it. Now click on file again. Click on re-name. Now name your folder what you are going to call your web site. Everything that you are going to put on your web site will go in this folder. Now open note pad. We are going to make a document just like the one in the white box below. After you have made the document, save as index.html and save it in your new folder.

<html>

<title>index.html</title>

<body bgcolor="#FFFFFF">
<center><H1>Welcome To My Home Page!</H1></center><br>
<center><H2>This is my first web page!</H2></center><br>
<center><H3>This is really easy!</H3></center><br>
